Ginco Award 2020

GINCO, the inclusive, German comic award of the independent scene, was announced for the second time in January 2020.
The works could be submitted until July 1st, 2020.

Around 200 works were entered, of which about 140 qualified for participation.
The prize money was once again donated by private sponsors who had secured the award for three years, starting in 2019.

Catching stars and lighting up the dark

As the extent of the COVID-19 pandemic became more and more apparent, most comic conventions had to call off their events. However, because of a successful and generous collaboration with International Comic-Salon Erlangen and Comic Solidarity, GINCO was able to stay in touch with the scene through #CSEdigital; holding online-workshops and talks featuring resilient creatives, and by producing animated comic-readings with previous winners.

The award-show was held as a YouTube-live stream in cooperation with Comic Invasion Berlin. (see documentation)

The sympathy-figure was outlined by illustrie and colored by Adrian vom Baur. The trophies that had been designed and manufactured by Jonas Holt in 2019, were printed a second time, in different colors and in a slightly smaller scale.
